01. YOUR DETAILS
Your Business Name
Business Location (Optional)
Website URL (Optional)
Favourite Food (for fun!)
Why did you get into this business?
What are some of your personal strengths? What are some of your personal weaknesses? (These are important to consider as we discover how these can turn into opportunities.)
What do you value?
02. YOUR BUSINESS
You know your business best, and I would like to learn more about what you do in order to effectively help tell your story! When filling out the following section, try describing your business as if we were casually chatting in person. No need to sell us on your services here, just tell it like it is.
Can you give a brief history of your business?
What is the meaning behind your business name?
Do you already have a mission statement? If so, can you share it here?
Are you experiencing any difficulties within your business right now?
Where do you see your business in 1 year? 3 years?
03. YOUR AUDIENCE
In this section, I would love to get to know your audience better (or your DREAM audience if applicable). They are who we need to attract, after all. Which means that this is the most important part of the questionnaire. First we’re going to start with general facts. Base level stuff.
Can you describe your typical customer/client?
Gender
Age
Income
Location
In the next several questions, we're going to go a lot deeper. While the above gives us a good start, it doesn't get to the heart of your audience. For example, we don't just want to know where they live. We want to know why. We don't just want to know who they may or may not live with. We want to know why they've chosen to surround themselves with certain people. We want to know what they love. What they struggle with. And so much more. So! Please be as descriptive as possible. If it helps, feel free to imagine your audience as one person as you describe them throughout the rest of this section.
What is your audience's family situation like? (Are they married, dating, or single? Do they have or want kids? Are they close with their family? Do they live close to family?)
Why has your audience chosen the specific location (or type of location ie: city, suburb, rural, etc.) they currently live in? What kind of house do they live in and why? What is it like? How do they decorate?
What kind of job does your audience have and what is their work life like? (Do they work to live or live to work? Do they love what they do or not? Are they just starting out, climbing up the ladder, or already at the top?)
What is your audience's friend situation like? (Are they social in general? Introverted or extroverted? Are they the type that sticks to a few best friends or do they prefer having a larger friend group?)
In general, how does your audience dress? Where do they shop? Why?
What kind of music does your audience listen to?
What kind of tv shows does your audience watch?
What kind of hobbies does your audience have?
What is important to your audience? What do they value? Why?
What does your audience struggle with?
What does your audience want/need that they don't currently have?
Why might your audience struggle to say yes or hit buy to what you're offering?
Why will your people be drawn to your business?
04. YOUR COMPETITION
Let's take a closer look at your industry and figure out who you're competing with. By getting to know these people and/or businesses on a deeper level, I will be able to pinpoint ways in which your business can stand out.
Please list 2-3 of your competitors. What are they doing well? What are they NOT doing well?
What makes you stand out from your current competitors?
05. YOUR ETHOS
Every brand has a voice, so let's do a quick "this or that" exercise, where you SELECT the winning adjective on each line. If your decision on a certain line is more complicated, or if you'd like to explain more about why you chose a certain word, please do!
